Harvesting of Momones Chinos in San Buenaventura

September 1, 2011 at 6:40 pm Leave a comment

Every July/August the momones chinos are harvested in the Osa region of Costa Rica. Momones chinos grow on trees and come in two colors – red and yellow. The red ones are exported to El Salvador while the yellow ones generally stay in Costa Rica.

The fruit is sweet and tastes like a grape. You simply peel off the outer skin (the spikes are very soft and do not hurt at all).
